Itinerary

Departure at 8:45 am from Lido train station, Reggio Calabria.
This itinerary will lead to the discovery of the two oldest villages of the so-called "Grecanic Area". Bova is called the "Capital of the Greeks of Italy" because of its ancient origins, its cultural aspects and traditions that are still alive today. A guided tour will let you know the history of this village and admire the Cathedral and other ancient churches, the Museum of Paleontology and Natural Sciences of the Aspromonte, the Museum of Grecanic Language, dedicated to the famous linguist Gerard Rohlfs, and the remains of the Norman Castle. The lunch time will give you the chance to taste the traditional grecanic cuisine at a farm. Later we will visit the Bergamot extraction factory: Bergamot is a citrus which grows only along the coast of Reggio Calabria. Pentedattilo is one of the most unique and fascinating villages of Calabria, its name means "five fingers" because of the shape of the rocks that form the background of this ancient village. It’s called "ghost town" because it is uninhabited. It’s a very evocative place with its narrow streets, the old houses, the ruins of the castle and the churches. Today you can visit some craft shops and the museum of rural civilization.
